NOC / TEER

National Occupational Classification / Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities

The official occupation system. TEER is the second digit of the five-digit NOC 2021 code.

On the official record

• NOC is the official government classification of occupations in the Canadian economy.
• TEER, introduced in NOC 2021, is the degree of training, education, experience, and responsibilities for that occupation. It replaced the old skill-type 0 / A / B / C / D labels.
• IRCC Find your NOC page says the main duties must match the work that was done. If they do not, find a different unit group.

Common mix-ups

• Not the job title on an offer letter.
• Not a wage report. Job Bank wages confirm. They do not pick the code.

The catch

Duties first, lead statement second. If IRCC finder table and the ESDC unit-group profile disagree, use the ESDC profile. Express Entry skilled work is usually TEER 0 to 3. That is a program filter, not proof the unit group is right.
