Can you please clarify which situation is true? Response: You are correct, the client can legally stay in Canada without employment as long as the closed work permit remains valid until its expiration but client is no longer able to work for the current employer or work another job for a different employer. If the client would like to continue working, they need to find a new LMIA-approved job offer and apply for a new work permit. The client can apply to restore their lost status if they apply within 90 days of losing their status.
