1. When a person is switching within the same DLI, must their study permit conditions recognize the new level of study (e.g.,

a study permit states "Bachelor's Degree”, but the new program is a Master Degree program)?

Response: A student switching within the same DUI (e.g. has completed a “Bachelor's degree” and is now starting a "Master

degree program”) and who has applied to extend their study permit because it is about to expire, can continue to study at

the new level within the same DL! until a decision is made. The study permit conditions refers to the ones listed on the IRCC

website and not the new level. Of course, it is expected that the student provides all the necessary documentation in their

study permit extension application such letter of acceptance into the new program, PAL (if applicable) etc,

2. If yes to #1, must the permit remain valid while they are studying the new program, or may they continue studying at the

new level after the permit expires if they submit an application for extension in accordance with R189?

Response: Once the student has applied for their study permit extension for the same DL! before it expires, they may benefit

from maintain status until a decision is made
