Sponsorship applications may be submitted under the overseas Family Class or under the Spouse or Common-Law
partner in Canada (SCLPC) class. The processing time that applies to an application is determined according to whether
it was submitted in the SCLPC class or in the Family Class, regardless of whether the person being sponsored is in
Canada at the time of the application, or during processing.
We can confirm that currently (April 2025), the processing time for new SCLPC (in Canada) applications is 24 months,
and for new spouse or partner applications under the Family Class (overseas) it is 11 months. The processing time for
spouse and partner applications under the Family Class is the same whether the applicant is living in Canada or
overseas.
If the applicant was living outside Canada when they applied under the Family Class, then moved to Canada during
processing, the processing time will remain 11 months
