Dear [requester],
We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to seek clarification regarding the appropriate status selections for
international students in our upcoming Designated Learning Institution (DLI) compliance report.
We would greatly appreciate your guidance on the following scenarios to ensure our reporting aligns with IRCC’s
expectations:
1. 1. Clarification on Reporting Student Status in DL! Compliance Report
IRCC's current instructions indicate that student status should be reported as of the date the DLI receives the compliance
report request, and we are given 60 days to complete and submit the report.
00288
However, within those 60 days, a student's status can change — for example, a student who was on "Academic Suspension”
at the time of the request may be re-admitted during this period.
In such cases, does IRCC expect DLIs to report the student's status as of the date we submit the report, reflecting the most
current status, or must we strictly report the status as it was on the date the compliance report request was received,
regardless of any subsequent changes?
2. 2. Student Status for Program Change Before Program Start Date (Same DLI)
If a student has not yet started their initial program and is subsequently deferred to a future intake with a different program
(but remains at the same DUI), which status should be reported in the compliance report?
Would this student be classified as
© * "Not Started”, since they have not begun any program;
© * “Deferred”, due to the change in intake and program;
© * or “Authorized Leave”, given the change in study plans?
We would appreciate clarification on how best to reflect such scenarios where study plans change prior to program start, but
the student remains with the same institution.
3. 3. New Program After Program Completion:
In cases where a student has completed one program and received a Letter of Acceptance for a new program before the DLI
reportis submitted:
© * Ifthe gap between the two programs is less than 150 days, is it appropriate to report the status as “Academic Break”?
© * Ifthe gap is more than 150 days, should we use “Not Started”?
We want to ensure our compliance report reflects the most accurate and up-to-date student information in accordance with
IRCC’s policies.
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. We would be grateful for any documentation or guidance you can provide
to support our reporting processes.
Best regards,
