Question: | am seeking some guidance on the "in Canada" component of the CEC eligibility criteria. While | understand that
remote work for a Canadian employer is excluded, | am looking for clarification regarding positions that involve extensive
travelling.
For example, if an executive of a multinational company employed in Canada is required to travel internationally as part of
their job, how should we treat these trips? If, over the course of 12 months of employment, the executive spent a cumulative
period of 2.5 months outside of Canada for the benefit of their Canadian employer, should these trips be excluded from the
12 months of work experience in Canada or not?
Answer: Work experience acquired with a Canadian employer outside of Canada does not qualify for Comprehensive Ranking
System (CRS) points as Canadian work experience, nor does it meet the minimum entry criteria for the Canadian Experience
[requester], work experience gained abroad may still be eligible for CRS points as foreign work experience. To ensure
accurate score calculation, separate entries in the Express Entry Profile Builder are required when employment experience is
divided between working in Canada and abroad.
The skilled work experience must meet the following requirements to be eligible under the Canadian Experience Class:
. be in 1 or more of these NOC categories: training, education, experience and responsibilities (TEER) 0, 1, 2, or 3
. be gained by working in Canada while authorized to work under temporary resident status
© * Ifyou worked remotely, you must have been physically in Canada and working for a Canadian employer.
5 show that you performed:
‘© * the actions in the lead statement of the NOC job description, and
© * most of the main duties listed
. be paid work (you must have been paid wages or earned commission—volunteer work or unpaid internships
don’t count)
. be at least 1 year of work or 1,560 hours total (30 hours per week) in the 3 years before you apply,
Please be advised that the assessment of an application is conducted on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the
specific circumstances and the supporting documentation available to the officer. It is the applicant's responsibility to
provide sufficient documentation to demonstrate that they meet the requirements.
We trust that this information will be of assistance to you.
