Question: Based on the most recent chanaes, we can see that spouses of study-permit holders can apply to extend their open work permits if they are “requesting an open work permit renewal for a duration that aligns with, and does not exceed, the principal foreign national's existing study authorization." Can you please confirm that when students apply to extend their study permit, they can include their spouse’s open work permit extension application in the same application? The wording of this update has us feeling unsure if this is still possible or if the student must apply to extend their study permit first, wait for the new document to be issued, and then the spouse can apply for an open work permit extension. Answer: Primary applicants may include their spouses open work permit extension in the same application as theirs at this time.
