The applicant only needs to submit 6 months of eligible Canadian or foreign work experience. Any work experience gained in Canada must be authorized. This authorization can be any combination of work permits or other authorizations such as maintained status or public policy. While experience gained on any work authorizations outside of the OROWP can count, the deadline for submitting proof of work experience is still 36 months following OROWP issuance. As applicants are now able to use Canadian or foreign work experience, or a combination of both, to satisfy the work experience requirement, they may-have 6 months of work experience that they obtained before they were even issued an OROWP that is now eligible. However, eligible work experience must have been accumulated no more than 36 months before the initial application was submitted. For example, if an applicant submitted their application for permanent residence on January 1, 2023, they can only use eligible work experience obtained after January 1, 2020 (and up to 36 months after issuance of the OROWP). In all cases it is important that the applicant carefully reviews all documentation to ensure they meet the work experience requirement before sending their proof, as a decision will be made based on the information that is provided.
