The information at https:/Awww.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/work/after- graduation/after-you-apply. htm! says: Working while we process your application You can work full-time until we make a decision on your work permit application if you © * had a valid study permit at the time you submitted your application © * completed your study program © * were eligible to work off campus without a work permit while studying and you didnj“t work more hours than you were allowed to My question is: Ifa study permit extension was submitted before the original study permit expired, placing the applicant in maintained status, would this be considered a “valid study permit" and, consequently, authorize the individual to work while their Post- Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) application is pending? RESPONSE: A student can work full-time until we make a decision on their work permit application if they had a valid study permit at the time they submitted their application, along with other eligibility requirements. Regarding maintained status and work authorization, students may have the conditions on their study permit that authorizes them to work on or off campus if they meet the requirements of R186(f) and R186(v). However, both of these sections of R186 require that the client is a full-time student, so even if they maintain their temporary resident status via the SP-EXT application, the client will no longer meet the requirements of R186(f) or (v) if they completed their program of studies.
