The updated guidelines indicate that students who applied for their study permits prior to November 1, 2024, will be assessed under the old rules, whereas those applying after this date will be assessed under the new rules. However, there is considerable confusion regarding how these changes apply to students who were already in Canada, actively studying, but now need to extend their study permits to complete their education. Specifically, we would like to clarify: 1. 1. For students extending their study permits to complete the same program they were enrolled in when these rules came into force—and not starting a new program—how will their eligibility for a PGWP be treated?
