QUESTION: I'm wondering if you can clarify the working permissions for students who have studied part-time in their last semester AND THEN FAILED ONE OF THEIR CLASSES and must retake it the next semester; students in this scenario study part-time two semesters in a row, since they weren't able to complete their graduation requirements the way they had planned. Can students in this case still work off-campus in their ‘new’ last semester, even if they are studying part-time again? The following information suggests that they cannot work off-campus if they have to retake classes since they studied part-time two semesters in a row: if you're a part-time student at a DLI You can work off campus only if; * you meet all of the requirements above, except the requirement to be a full-time student, and * you're only studying part-time, instead of full-time, because: © you're in the last semester of your study program and you don’t need a full course load to complete your program and © you were a full-time student in your program in Canada, up until your last semester RESPONSE: Please note that we cannot provide case case-specific information. In order to work off campus without a work permit under paragraph R186(v), students must hold full-time status during the academic session. We can confirm that amongst the eligible requirement to work off campus while attending part- time studies, the student would need to have been a full-time student in their previous semester. an0ese
