Question:

1am reaching out to seek clarification regarding the validity of a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) in certain

circumstances. Specifically, | would like to understand what happens to the validity of a BOWP if the associated

Permanent Residency (PR) application is returned or refused.

Does the BOWP remain valid in such cases, particularly if the candidate intends to reapply for PR and is actively

working toward meeting all the application requirements? Any insights or guidance on this matter would be greatly

appreciated, as it will help provide accurate advice to my clients.

Response:

With regards to your question when the client's permanent residence application is refused, the work permit remains

valid until it expires. The client can continue to work in Canada until such time the bridging open work permit expires,

at which point if they want to remain in Canada, they will need to explore other work permit programs, change their

temporary resident status to a visitor, and they may try to apply for permanent residence again.
