QUESTION If'we require a student to do an English Academic Preparation (EAP) Pathway program prior to starting either an undergraduate (UG) or graduate (GR) program, which type of PAL would be used? Technically the student does the EAP first, which would be part of the ‘other’ category. It seems to us that we would need to use an UG PAL for the [requester] they then move to an UG program at the same DLI, then no new PAL should be required. Then this leads to the EAP to GR scenario. Would we need a new PAL for the transition in this case since it would be seen as a UG to GR transition? Or is there a way to bundle it together since the intent is for the student to come for graduate studies? RESPONSE If the English Academic Preparation (EAP) program is included as a condition of admission to an undergraduate (UG) or graduate (GR) program, the PAL requirements depend on how the institution structures the admission: 1, EAP as Part of an Undergraduate (UG) Program: © Ifa student receives a conditional acceptance to a UG program where the EAP is a prerequisite, the UG PAL should be used from the start. * No new PAL would be required when transitioning from the EAP to the UG program, provided both are at the same Designated Learning Institution (DLI). 2. EAP as Part ofa Graduate (GR) Program: * Ifa student is conditionally admitted to a GR program with an EAP requirement, the GR PAL should be used from the beginning * No new PAL would be required after completing the EAP, as long as the student remains at the same DLI 3.
