QUESTION: lam writing to seek clarification regarding the work eligibility of international students who return to their studies ona part-time basis in their final semester after taking an authorized leave. Specifically, the situation is as follows: © * The student remain full time status in Winter 2024 and Spring 2024. © * Then, the student took an authorized leave during their program in Fall 2024 and resumed their studies in Winter 2025. * *InWinter 2025, it will be the last semester and the student will be a part-time student, as they are completing the remaining courses required for graduation. Given these circumstances, could you confirm whether the student is eligible to work during their final semester? RESPONSE: Please note that we cannot provide case case-specific information. Please note that in order to work off campus without a work permit under paragraph R186(v), students must hold fulltime status during the academic session before and after their regularly scheduled break. ifa studentis part-time student at a DLI, they can work off campus only if: © * they meetall the eligibility requirements, except the requirement to be a full-time student, and © * they are only studying part-time, instead of full-time, because: © * theyare in the last semester of your study program and they don’t need a full course load to complete their program and © * they were a full-time student in their program in Canada, up until your last semester 000965
