Hello and good day,

We are seeking clarification on whether a PAL would be required in the following scenario.

As per IRCC’s revised guidelines, exchange students no longer require a PAL; however, those staying for a fll year still require a study permit. Our understanding is that study permit holders in Canada are eligible to apply for an extension.

fan exchange (visiting) student later transfers to a Canadian DLI as a degree-seeking student, would they require a PAL —even if they are applying for a study permit extension while holding a valid study permit?

In this scenario, the student would receive a new Letter of Acceptance but continue studying at the same level (undergraduate) and at the same [requester] a PAL be required for this transition from visiting student to degree student?
