Question 1

Recognizing that IRCC states that courses longer than six months require a study permit but that some students can complete the

preparatory courses in less than six months, can you categorically confirm that students taking these PREP courses are required to

hold a study permit? Students must be residing in Canada to take the preparatory courses, and students are required to write in-

person examinations for some of the courses.

Response 1

A study permit is required for any program of study longer than six months. Since the CPA PREP courses can be completed in less

than six months, students may not need a study permit if they complete the courses within this timeframe, However, because

students must reside in Canada and write in-person examinations, itis advisable to obtain a study permit to avoid any complications.

Question 2

Will international students be more likely to be approved to receive a study permit for the CPA Professional Education Program if

they were previously approved for a study permit for PREP courses?

Each study permit application is assessed on its own merits based on IRCC's eligibility criteria, including enrollment at a designated

learning institution (DL, proof of sufficient funds, and intent to eave Canada upon completion of studies. Applicants must meet all

current requirements at the time of application.

Can you categorically confirm that an international student in the CPA Professional Education Program who holds a study permit

designated for will not need a provincial attestation letter (PAL) if they need to extend their study oorzr3

= cn ian ear Response 3 Ifa student is applying for a study permit extension at the same Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and at the same level of study, they do not need a new Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL). However, if they are moving in between post-secondary levels at the same DLI, they can keep studying at your DLI with their current study permit as long as they still meet their study permit conditions. However, if they need to extend their study permit, they will also need to submit a new provincial attestation letter (PAL) of territorial attestation letter (TAL). © Changing your schoo! or program - Canada.ca Question 4 Given the nature of our professional education program (students study part-time while working full-time), can you advise what proof of funding is required for international students? would like to know how we can best support these students with their study permit applications to IRCC (ie. documents). We recently had a student advised by IRC that they must show proof of full tution payment. The practice of having international applicants pre-pay tuition is not one that employs. Response 4 IRCC requires proof of financial support to ensure that students can support themselves and any accompanying family members while in [requester] proof includes:

© Proof of a Canadian bank account in the student's name

* A Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from a participating Canadian financial institution

* Proof of a student or education loan from a bank

© Bank statements for the past four months

© A bank draft that can be converted to Canadian dollars

© Proof of payment for tuition and housing fees

* A letter from the person or school giving the student money

* Proof of funding paid from within Canada, if the student has a scholarship or is in a Canadian-funded educational program. Can you categorically confirm iffa student in this circumstance would require a second study permit for our institution’? Or, if the module course was completed in less than six months could they study with us without the need for any additional study permit? Response 5 Students who wish to study at more than one DLI must apply for a new study permit for each DLI if the course or program of study is longer than 6 months. Therefore, if one or two of the courses in another public institution is less than 6 months, a second study permit would not be required.
