submitted your study permit application before November 1, 2024, there are no field of study requitements.”*T had originally interpreted this to be in reference only to the initial study permit application, excluding study permit extensions as long as the student remained in their original program of study and their program was PGWP eligible before November 1, 2024. However, I recently spoke with a Business Management student who informed me that yesterday they had been told by an IRCC representative that any student who is extending their study permit on November IS or later, under a field of study that is not PGWP eligible under the new rules, will not be issued a [requester] farther context, this student began studying the Business Management Diploma program, which was PGWP eligible under the requirements prior to November 1, 2024, in January 2024. Due to a deferral of ther start date, they will need to extend their study permit before September 30, 2025 to complete thei final semester of study. Further, this student's claim seems to be supported by various literature, such as the following: “Students who had their study permits before November | were ‘grandfathered’ into being PGWP eligible, even if their program of study wasn’t tied to a CIP code that determines its eligibility under the new rules. Now, unless the students changed to a PGWP eligible program, if they need to extend their permit, they will not be able to remain in Canada on a work permit after graduation.” IRCC ends “grand fathering’ for study permit extensions Therefore, I am seeking clarification on whether students who began studying programs that were PGWP eligible prior to November I, 2024 but are no longer PGWP eligible under the new ruies, can stillbe approved for a PGWP ifthey apply for a study permit extension on or after November 1, 2025 Thank you for your time
