Program stacking for study permits obtained on or after November 1, 2024 Example 1: Completing 2 PGWP-eligible programs On or after November 1, 2024, ifa student completes 2 consecutive programs that are PGWP-eligible within 2 years of completion of the first program, then when they apply for a PGWP, the duration of the PGWP could be based on the duration of both programs. Example 2: Completing a first program that is not PGWP-eligible and a second one that is PGWP-eligible On.onafter November. 1,.2024.if.a student. completes 2.consecutive programs where the first is not PGWP-eligible, they would not benefit from, program.stacking.when. the duration of,the PGWP is. determined. With the November 1 PGWP eligibility changes regarding “field of study requirements” the completed program of study does not appear on the PGWP eligible program (CIP) list. However, because the student applied for the study permit prior to November 1, 2024, he IS PGWP on that program without having to meet the field of study requirements. This student chose to start a second, one-year program in January 2025 that IS on the PGWP eligible (CIP) list, and needed to apply for a study permit extension in order to do this. Our understanding based on the PDIis if the student applied for the study permit extension before November 1, 2024, he would still be eligible for a 3-year PGWP based on program stacking. However, what about if student applied for a study permit extension for the second program after November 1, 2024? Based on the PDI, does this mean the first program is not going to be counted in the program stacking?
