Dear [requester] or Madams: Situation:

* * Intemational student with a valid study permit issued before Nov 1, 2024, to enrollin a one-year program of study.

* *OnNov 15, 2024, they applied for a study permit extension to enroll ina second program of study, which also has a duration of one year.

* * This extension has been approved and the student would complete his second program of study on or about April 2026.

* * Emphasis on the fact that the second program of study is not a continuation of the first one. The student completed the first one and will be studying an additional program for which they have been granted a study permit extension.

Questions: Question 1: Does the requirement for “eligible field of study’ applies to this case, provided that the student was in possession of a study permit prior to Nov 1, 2024, but applied for an extension of this study permit on November 15, 2024, to enroll in a second program? Question 2: Assuming that the second program of study is ina PGWP-eligible field, but the first one wouldn't be (especially since this requirement did not exist when they applied for and was granted the first study permit), what would be the duration of their PGWP? The accumulated duration of the two programs? Only the duration equivalent to the second one? Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.
