Please see our response to your question: Question: Based on new changes implemented by IRCC, student's study permit becomes invalid on the day on which the permit holder is no longer enrolled at the designated learning institution that is named in the permit, other than as a result of completing their studies. We have encountered several cases where students are unable to begin their studies due to delays in receiving their study permits. In such situations, does the study permit automatically expire upon issuance? Would the student need to apply for a new permit to continue their studies in the following semester? A study permit does not automatically expire upon issuance. The new regulations are designed to ensure that students stay actively engaged in their studies, except during scheduled breaks or approved leave, which is limited to a maximum of 150 days. Students who are outside Canada and have received their study permit approval after their program has started can follow the instructions provided on the IRCC website. If you want to defer your enrolment before arriving in Canada If your application has been approved and you want to defer your enrolment (which means you want to start studying later than planned) at the DU that has already issued your letter of acceptance (LOA), you need to

Study permit holders in Canada may take authorized leave up to a 150 days and still be considered actively pursuing their studies and meeting their study permit conditions.
