Students who have completed their studies on maintained status under R189 are eligible to apply for a PGWP, as long as they

meet the other eligibility requirements. Please note that the current regulation only allows applicants to apply for a PGWP in

Canada if their study permit is still valid (not expired) or if they meet one of the other requirements of section R199 at the time

they submit their application.

Ifan applicant is eligible for a PGWP and they don’t hold a valid study permit, they are eligible to apply ffom outside Canada,

I have a followup question which T forgot to ask in the initial email ( my sincere apologies for that ) In this case, a) Her study permit was upto December 31, 2024. b) As she was expecting that she will not be getting her Completion letter + Transcripts till that date, she applied for extension of her study permit on December 28, 2024 to remain in a valid status. c) She received her Completion letter + Transcripts on 18th January 2025. What is the best course of action for her ? Q1) Wait for her study permit extension approval and then apply PGWP ? 2) Apply only PGWP, with completion ketter + transcripts and proof of study permit extension application submission Q3) Apply PGWP + Restoration of study permit, with completion letter + transcripts and proof of study permit extension application submission. Can she work as a student, after she applies for her study permit extension before expiry of her current study permit ? \sb280Response: Students may work off campus on a part-time basis (up to 24 hours per week) ifthe following applies: © they meet the eligibility criteria to work off campus [R186(\)] © they have completed the final academic requirements for their program of study but have not yet received written confirmation of program completion from their institution (for instance, a transcript, an official letter or an email) * they have not applied for a work permit (for instance, a post-graduation work permit or a work permit with a valid Labour Market Impact Assessment) or a study permit extension or enrolled in a subsequent program of study They may work until the first date they receive written confirmation of program completion from their educational institution (for instance, an email, a etter, a transcript or a diploma), provided their study permit remains valid during this period. Ifthe study permit becomes invalid [as per R222] before the student receives the notification of program completion from their institution, the student must cease working the day the study permit becomes invalid.
