Please see our response to your question: Question received: A foreign national holds a valid visitor record in Canada with expiry date on 31 July 2026. Assuming the foreign national left Canada on I January 2025, returned on I February 2025 and will continue meeting conditions and requirement of the visitor record: 1. Will the foreign national continue to have valid status in Canada till the visitor record expires on 31 July 2026? OR 2. The visitor record is considered no longer valid once the foreign national leaves Canada?

Approved response: The Visitor Record (VR) itself is not covered in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) or the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR), and is not valid for re-entry. As per R183(-4\(a), once a foreign national leaves Canada, their temporary resident status ends. Upon arrival at a port of entry (POE), and as per R185, the border services officer (BSO) has the discretion to either:

| — grant entry to the validity of the VR (if itis still valid),

2— grant entry for any other length of stay, or

3—deny entry
