Question: If an individual is currently unemployed but has more than one year of skilled Canadian work experience and receives an Invitation to Apply (ITA) under the Express Entry — Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw, are they required to provide proof of funds, or are they exempt? Answer: As is stated on our website, the applicant does not need to show that they have enough money to support themselves and their family if: 5 They're applying under the Canadian Experience Class or - They're authorized to work in Canada and they have a valid job offer, even if they apply under the Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Federal Skilled Trades Program The applicant must answer the question posed in the Express Entry Profile [requester] cannot be left blank. The applicant must enter the amount of funds available to them, even if they meet the exemption criteria. Because they meet the exemption criteria (met the criteria for CEC, or they have a valid job offer), the system will not deem them ineligible if they enter an amount lower than the LICO funds. The amount entered in the profile will not be used as an assessment tool when the application is reviewed. However, our system is designed to capture this information for all applicants. It cannot be left blank, and the amount entered should not be fabricated. When the applicant is invited to apply, the system will ask all applicants to provide a proof of funds document. If they don’t need to provide proof of funds, they must upload a letter explaining either that they have been invited to apply under the Canadian Experience Class, or have a valid job offer. Please be advised that the assessment of an application is based on a case-by-case basis; each application will be considered ‘on its own merits, with a final decision based on a review of all the information available to the officer at the time of decision.
