‘Under the category-based selection rounds qualifying work experience must be acquired continuously over a period of at least six months (or 780 hours of work experience over a period of at least six months); work in excess of 30 hours per week over a shorter period cannot compensate for any shorter overall period of experience. Please be advised that the assessment of an application is conducted on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the specific circumstances and the supporting documentation available to the officer. An applicant gained 5 months and 3 weeks of experience in an eligible NOC occupation before their work permit got refused. They however never took any day off (so they accumulated a week of paid vacation) and according to their paystubs, they got exactly 780 hours of paid experience in the eligible NOC occupation (only 30 hours/week counted), IRCC considers 1560 hours as a year of experience. Would a candidate with 780 hours of experience accumulated in 5 months and 3 weeks be eligible to apply under the Category-based selection? Or would both have to be met (6 months and 780 hours of experience)? Thank you in advance.
