A study permit holder that wishes to concurrently attend more than one DLI must apply for a study permit for each DLI at which they intend to study. As stated, per R188(1)(c), foreign workers may engage in occasional studies or programs of study lasting 6 months or less at any time during their authorized stay in Canada. The duration of the course or program of study is ofien a more important consideration than the number of months the foreign national intends to study. “Q4: Sometimes international students registered at one DLI may choose or may be required to take one or two courses with another DLI to help them complete their credential. In this scenario, will the student be able to take the one course while using the study permit that is associated with the first DLI? Ré: Students who wish to study at more than one DL.I must apply for a new study permit for each DLI if the course or the program of study is longer than six months. Therefore, if one or two of the courses in another public institution are less than six months a step second study permit will not be required” Also, does it matter ifthe student is a fll-time or a part-time student at the ;°visiting; institution if the courses that they are taking are less than 6 months? The reason why Ij m asking this is because a colleague shared the below response from IRCC which seems to contradict the above information: (£2. International students with valid study permit for another DLI in Canada who desire to attend our institution as (‘visiting students; for one semester full time later to return to their primary institution to graduate from. Is this student required to apply for a new study permit even if their stay at our institution is limited to one semester? Upon ending their visiting semester at our institution, do they need to reapply again for a new study permit to return to their primary institution?
