Access to Information and Privacy

The legal route to the records IRCC already holds about a file or about you.

On the official record

  • IRCC administers requests under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.
  • Privacy Act: your own personal information. IRCC says Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and foreign nationals, wherever they are, can request it.
  • Access to Information Act: records under IRCC control, with eligibility limits printed on the ATIP page.

Common mix-ups

  • Not a status tracker.
  • Not a way to speed a decision.
  • Not a form this site hosts. File on the official IRCC or Treasury Board channel.

The catch

Use the walkthrough on the ATIP page. Do not send a UCI or application number to this site. This glossary will not collect one.
